In this article, I want to bring to your attention some important factors to consider when constructing your next biodigester for your dream house.
When choosing the location for any simple onsite biodegradable toilet biodigester construction, it is important to take into account both the soil type and the groundwater conditions of the area.
Ideally, the biodigester should be placed in an area with well-draining soil and a sandy substrate, allowing the digester tank to be fully buried underground.
On the other hand, in less ideal locations, such as a waterlogged area, it is essential to ensure that the digester is positioned at a depth that prevents it from falling below the water table, even during the rainy season.
The aquifer level, which measures the depth of submerged subsurface material, varies over time and seasons.
Therefore, the location of any biodigester should reflect the highest groundwater level in its immediate surroundings.
A valuable tip for determining the water table depth is to dig a hole and observe the saturation depth and level.
For areas with high water tables close to or at the surface, the toilet should be placed on or slightly below ground level.

In an ideal scenario, when the water table is at a median level between the surface and about 4 feet below ground, the toilet digester can be installed at a depth of approximately 1.5 feet.
However, when the water table is below 4 feet during severe conditions, the digester should be installed at full depth, with less than 1 foot exposed above ground.

It is always recommended that you place the biodigester in a well-draining area with sandy soil, but adjustments should be made based on the highest groundwater level in the immediate vicinity.
It is crucial to consider the proximity of the biodigester to any water sources, such as boreholes and pipe-borne water. To prevent contamination, it is advisable to keep a safe distance from these water bodies.
By carefully selecting the siting and location of a biodegradable toilet waste biodigester, it can operate efficiently, safely, and effectively, contributing to sustainable waste management practices.
